Barbados is the best island in the Caribbean. I know, I know, I’ve probably just offended all of the St. John, St. Barts, and Turks and Caicos lovers around the world. And while those islands are spectacular in their own right, Barbados, once thought to just be the playground for British royalty, is a hidden treasure that everyone must visit multiple times in their lifetime.
Why? Simply put, it’s probably the most diverse (in respect to activities) island in the entire Caribbean. Whatever type of experience you’re looking to have, Barbados can accommodate. Amazing night life, great golfing, a plethora of restaurants with amazing food, friendly people, reliable public transportation, great low end and high end shopping, and it’s super safe. For those who are looking to escape the calm and warm Caribbean waters on the west coast of the island for more adventure, you can traverse 30 minutes to rustic town of Bathsheba on the east coast. There, you’ll have the opportunity to experience delicious food while watching the waves of the Atlantic crash against the shore in one of the most popular surfing spots in the Caribbean.
Keep in mind, this doesn’t even scratch the surface of what you can do in Barbados! The richness of the Bajan culture (rum was invented here), the diverse experiences, and the perfect blend of development and unspoiled beaches have me excited about my next trip to the island. In the meantime, check out this video that I, unfortunately, did not put together. It tells the story of this amazing island in a very catchy, and admittedly, comical way. Nonetheless, the only conclusion that can be derived from my time in Barbados is that it totally rocks…and totally rules.
