May 06, 2016

No one wants to sabotage precious vacation time!  Sometimes it might be the right place, but it’s the wrong time of year.  You either encounter huge crowds, endure frigid cold or stifling heat, or get rained on the entire time!  Visit some of the absolute best destinations for May 2016 when you vacation at Cancun in Mexico, Marrakesh in Morocco, or Orlando in USA.

Cancun, Mexico

Coba near CancunThis paradise is stunning year round, but May brings an especially lovely time to visit.  All the spring break visitors have gone back to school, and temperatures remain below 90 degrees Fahrenheit for the most part.  Amazing time to spend on the gorgeous beaches, because it’s pleasantly warm enough for swimming and watersports, but not as hot as the summer months will be.

Another remarkable site near Cancun is the ruins of Cobá, an ancient Mayan settlement.  Climb the stairs to reach the top of the magnificent pyramid, Nohoch Mul, for a stunning view of the gorgeous Yucatan, complete with multiple lagoons.  An exhilarating moment for sure!

Perhaps golfing sounds preferable to you. You’ll definitely want to visit the Cancun Golf Club at Pok-Ta-Pok; its course was designed by well known architect Robert Trent Jones II. One of the most beautiful and enjoyed golf courses in Cancun, and a great place to perfect your swing.

Also enjoy the beauty of Mexico by visiting Xcaret eco-archaeological Park, which abounds in great activities.  Located on the seashore of Cancun, this park boasts over 50 attractions! Some include a snorkeling tour, dolphin swims, Butterfly Pavilion on Jaguar Island, various events that educate about the Mayan culture, and so much more!

Marrakesh, Morocco

Jardin Majorelle in MarrakeshThe month of May marks a glorious time to visit Marrakesh! You can anticipate temperatures being in the high 70’s to low 80’s Fahrenheit, and sunshine abounds.  Crowds also diminish after peaking over Easter, and peaking again in the summer.

Marrakesh offers amazing opportunities to enjoy pure bliss! One place to find it is inside the Jardin Majorelle, an amazing garden originally created by French painter Jacques Majorelle.  You can stroll through lanes of trees and abundant exotic plants, as well as enjoy gorgeous streams and pools. This lovely retreat offers a peaceful retreat from the city.

Another choice to visit in Marrakesh is the stunning ruins of El Badi Palace.  Constructed in 1593, it offered a lavish display of the best architecture of that time period.  The original builders spared no expense, using the best materials available to them.  The main attraction of the palace is the Koutoubia minbar, which is a prayer pulpit.  Its steps are detailed with ancient gold and silver calligraphy by Cordoban artists.  An amazing step back into the glorious history of this region.

If you’re going to Marrakesh, might as well do something you’ll never forget.  Take a camel ride through the Palm Grove of the Caravanes.  It’s a half day tour, and includes a stop at a local home for mint tea and Moroccan pancakes.  Definitely provides a unique memory and photo opportunities of the beautiful countryside.

Orlando, Florida

Dolphin at OrlandoMay is a spectacular time to visit Orlando, as it’s considered the low season.  Far fewer tourists to compete with your enjoyment of restaurants and other attractions.  And the weather offers abundant sunshine with high temperatures  from 87-90 degrees Fahrenheit, on average.

For family friendly fun, the popular Magic Kingdom Theme Park at Walt Disney World Resort wholeheartedly delivers on its reputation.  The theme park of all theme parks, it is magnificent.

You may want to visit a park of a different theme when you go to Discovery Cove Orlando, which is a glorious experience where you can interact with dolphins, view a coral reef, swim with tropical fish,  go snorkeling, or cross a rope bridge over a lagoon filled with sharks.  And when you go to Discovery Cove, you also gain admission to Seaworld and Aquatica Orlando! A lifetime of exciting things to see and do!

If you’d like to follow up with something slower paced, don’t miss the Mennello Museum of American Art.  This amazing display of art is housed in what was previously a private home of Howard Phillips, whose father was well known philanthropist Dr. P. Phillips.  This charming museum includes artwork that spans through multiple time periods, as well as a section of remarkable sculptures.  Definitely a relaxing place to visit, as well as educational.
