Skiing is not one of my strengths! I am happy to try a slope or two, but I would much rather sit in the lodge with a cup of cocoa and watch others test their skills. The times I have skied, I’ve gone to popular east coast destinations. Needless to say, I was unprepared for the majestic and challenging slopes in Breckenridge, Colorado!
The town of ‘Breck’ is located at an elevation of 9,600 feet. Whoa! I flew into Denver, rented a car and was in Breckenridge two hours later. I drove that route at night, in the snow, but overall it was an easy drive. For this trip, I was fortunate enough to stay in the beautiful Rustic Timber Lodge. If you have up to 8 guests, I would suggest staying here every time. The décor is mountain appropriate with an upscale feel. The kitchen and lodge room (yes with a wood fireplace) are sensational. The location is splendid as the Lodge sits in Sunbeam Estates (an approximate 8-10 minute walk to Main Street).
I visited Breckenridge in early November. A fresh coat of snow had just blanketed Main Street, though the ski resorts were not open yet. Most of the properties for rental are either in town or in the Highlands (about a 10 minute drive from town). A few of the properties are located closer to the Peaks, and most of those offer a shuttle service (if not at your rental property, most within walking distance). The villa experience in Breck exudes luxury service. If you want a fitting at your rental property for ski equipment, it can be arranged. If you want resort/gondola passes delivered to your property, our concierge department will happily arrange it. If you have questions on the best local eateries or markets, just ask!
Have a large group? The Lofty Fox Villa and Lofty Lynx, make up a duplex sleeping 24 total guests. Chelsea House (6 bedrooms) is affordable, beautiful and right in the heart of town. Many of our clients ask about wedding ceremonies in Breck; Aloft at V3 Ranch is gorgeous for the big day! One of my favorites was Five O Clock Lodge, complete with a gondola car on the lower level for seating. Bristlecone Lodge is the perfect home for a large family/group hoping to be close to all of the Peak 8 activities.
Even if you don’t ski, I went snowshoeing at Mohawk and loved it. The summer activities are sensational as well – from festivals to golf to shopping to zip lines and the water park at Peak 8. Breckenridge is an easy get away and offers something for the entire family.
