I began my 5-night inspection tour of our luxury villa rentals in Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita with a 3-night stay at one of our luxurious Hacienda de Mita penthouses within the Punta Mita gates. The ocean and mountain views from the expansive patio are sublime. The Hacienda de Mita luxury condos not only have their own pool shared between the eight units in each building. Guests of Hacienda de Mita have access to the Hacienda de Mita Beach Club with an excellent beginner’s surf spot right out front. Hacienda de Mita is adjacent to the town of Punta de Mita, so it’s convenient to walk to any of the beachfront seafood restaurants for an enjoyable seaside dinner.
The gated community of Punta Mita is the most exclusive resort in the entire country, and the community features two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses, one of which (Pacifico course) was ranked as the #1 golf course in Latin America in 2006 and in 2008. Punta Mita is also home to the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, and some of Mexico’s most luxurious private villas and condos.
Punta Mita’s finest villas are located primarily in the communities of Ranchos Estates and La Punta Estates, with additional properties in Signature Estates, Kupuri Estates, Lagos del Mar, and El Banco Estates as well. Some of my favorite villas in Punta Mita that I toured are Casa Familia (Ranchos Estates), Palmasola (Signature Estates), Casa Tres Soles (El Banco Estates), Casa Majani (La Punta Estates), Casa Mataiza (Kupuri Estates), Casa Luna Mar (Ranchos), and Villa Lunada (La Punta). The villas in Ranchos Estates are beachfront on an amazing, private beach, and although Ranchos Estates is outside the gates of Punta Mita, the Ranchos homes do provide access to the amenities within the Punta Mita gates. The Ranchos home lots are very large, providing for excellent privacy and spacious living. The beach is amazing, and it’s perfect for surfing, standup paddleboarding, beachcombing, or just enjoying the gorgeous ocean views with the Marieta Islands with its famous Hidden Beach in the distance. The security throughout Punta Mita, including Ranchos Estates, is very impressive, and although the Punta Mita area is a very safe and family-friendly destination, the impeccable security does add a level of peace-of-mind.
The Residents’ Beach Club within the Punta Mita gates is a great place to have a drink, enjoy the pool, or lounge on one of the beach chairs while being attended to by the Club’s attentive staff. I would recommend taking a walk down the beach to enjoy a closer view of the Tail of the Whale, the Pacifico’s 3B hole, the largest natural island green in the world. The Residents’ Beach Club has a separate kids’ pool and a restaurant as well.
The St. Regis Beach Club is definitely worth a visit. A minimum consumption is required, and it’s well worth it to experience the casual-yet-elegant environment of this beach club. The infinity swimming pool is very large and it provides a panoramic ocean view with amazing sunset vistas. The delicious Sea Breeze Restaurant and Bar is not to be missed.
If you are staying within the Punta Mita gates, you can get around very easily on a golf cart. If you are staying outside the Punta Mita in Ranchos Estates (which is gated with security), it’s a short drive (just a few minutes) to the Punta Mita gates, and there is ample parking at both the Residents’ Beach Club and the St. Regis Beach Club. The entire Punta Mita development is landscaped with an impressive area of lush, native flora, and it’s a beautiful experience to drive throughout the Punta Mita development.
If you are looking for some action, the bohemian surfer town of Sayulita is just a 15-minute drive north of Punta Mita. Popular with tourists of all ages, Sayulita is a perfect place to visit for some fun and some excellent surf right off the main Sayulita beach.
For my last two nights, I was accommodated in the wonderful Casa Tabachin in the Gringo Gulch area of Puerto Vallarta. The home’s staff is amazing (practically all of our Puerto Vallarta villas have staff included), and the view of the green mountains covered with villas and condominiums is an impressive sight. The pool is expansive and the layout of the villa is conducive to gracious outdoor living. The villa is conveniently located within walking distance of the Romantic Zone and the Malecon. There’s an amazing local market just a few blocks away from the house as well. Some of my favorite villas that I inspected are Villa Venado (Garza Blanca), Villa Bahia (Lower Conchas Chinas), Villa Las Puertas (Lower Conchas Chinas), and Casa Galeana (Old Town). The highway that runs along the coast heading south from town on your way to Mismaloya is breathtaking. There a few excellent beaches that line the highway between Puerto Vallarta and Mismaloya, not to mention the ever-popular Los Muertos Beach in Old Town Puerto Vallarta. At night, it’s definitely recommended to stroll along the Malecon and check out the amazing art galleries or dine out at one of the city’s excellent restaurants. The city is buzzing with activity and the town’s cobblestone streets and terracotta roofs will woo you with their charm and romance.
