When I was told that I would be touring villas in the Riviera Maya I assumed I would be seeing either large, isolated gated properties on private beaches or properties in the heart of the legendary nightlife scenes of Cancun and Playa del Carmen. What I found in the Playacar neighborhood at the southern tip of Playa del Carmen was a pleasant mix of both of these worlds.
Playa del Carmen is a tourist town about 45 minutes south of Cancun that is becoming increasingly popular and is best known for the nightlife and restaurants that can be found on its main street called 5th Avenue that can easily surpass Cancun in quantity and quality of options. So the last thing I was expecting to get when visiting this area was some time to rest and relax, but that is exactly what is in store for people when they stay in the Playacar neighborhood.
Playacar is a gated community at the southern end of Playa del Carmen and when staying at a villa here you will have access to everything you could want for in a perfect vacation. Days can be spent here relaxing on nearly deserted beaches, while the non-stop nightlife of 5th Avenue is a short 10 minute walk away. I always felt comfortable walking out to 5th Avenue with my wife for dinners at fabulous restaurants and then after it was a convenient $7 cab ride back to our villa.
Of course for nights that you do not wish to go out a private chef can always prepare a Mexican delicacy for you in the comfort of your vacation home.
On my tour of properties here I came across options that can please any type of person whether it was the backyard oasis I found at Villa Aqua, or the technology lover’s dream at Kite House with built-in iPads that control every detail of the house from temperature to the movie projector room. The great thing is too that every option is just steps from one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen anywhere in the World!
My time spent in Playacar was one of the most enjoyable that Ihave ever had and I cannot wait to go back one day. Of course this should not be too difficult since this is one of the most accessible destinations to get to with an easy 45 minute drive straight south of the Cancun International Airport, which is one of the most accessible International airports for tourists from the USA.
