This is the second time I have been to St. Martin and this time, it was with my now-husband to celebrate our honeymoon! I loved St. Martin after our Familiarization Trip back in 2012, but this time I was excited to be able to see it from a tourist/vacationer’s view point. The first few nights we stayed at Monchal in Terres Basses. The quaint two bedroom villa had recently been renovated and had amazing updates throughout. It sits back a ways from the road so it is very quiet and private.
There was no need to drive to the beach as Monchal was literally 200 steps from the Plum Bay Beach! This beach is pretty private and remote. The several days that we enjoyed it we were practically the only ones there! We both spent a lot of time snorkeling close to shore; the water is so calm.
The next five nights we stayed at the beautiful five bedroom villa, Blue Palm. This villa is just down the road from Monchal in Terres Basses and right across the street from the walkway to Plum Bay beach. We spent much of our time in the infinity pool listening to music and relaxing. The other time was spent playing tennis at the villa’s private tennis court.
The sunsets from both villas facing out to Plum bay were amazing!
Besides our accommodations, we really enjoyed being in a great location for getting around and sightseeing. We drove into Marigot one evening for dinner and went to Mezza Luna one day for lunch, which is phenomenal! It is located in Baie Nettle on the way to Marigot. This is a great “feet-in-the-sand” restaurant overlooking the water. One of our favorite days was when we went to Grand Case and attempted to do a food crawl and only made it to two places! We went at about 4 p.m. after spending a day at Orient Bay beach. We started at Le Soleil and finished at Ocean 82 for the sunset. If there is one place you should visit during your stay, make sure it is Grand Case! The food is downright amazing and truly a fantastic experience.
The other days, we just went tooling around from beach to beach. We ended up at Sunset Beach Bar to watch the planes land, certainly one of the coolest things I have seen! The afternoons are the best as the bigger planes tend to come in after 12 p.m. We spent a few of our evenings in Maho which is back towards the airport. There are several bars and fun nightlife, as well as the casino! Don’t worry, you can catch a taxi if you have had too much fun and don’t want to drive home.
One our last day, I talked my husband into going to Philipsburg to do some shopping. If you are looking for any type of jewelry, etc. this is the place to be! It is such a cute town and you can make a full day out of it and enjoy the beach there, as well as several waterfront restaurants.
We found that St. Martin was perfect for the days we wanted to just sit and relax on the beach or at the pool, and also offered a lot of activity to keep you busy!
